My favorite third space is the outdoors, preferably hiking in the woods.

I'm really a fan of short hikes & walks, but I'm sincerely hoping to grow into being more of a hiking person as I get older. I love parks but I think libraries are my favourite third space — there's just something very calming about being around books for me.

Thanks so much for reading, Jeannine! :)

I am finding this piece months later, but this is one reason I love living in my city - its suburban but art-focused and makes a HUGE effort on community events that are free with options to purchase such as farmers markets with entertainment, pride events, Day of Music, etc. I can ride my bike downtown and feel a part of the community. We also have community trails to walk that saved my sanity during the pandemic. Everyone needs this, you are so right.

Wherever you live sounds SO lovely!! This is exactly what we all need, omg and it's so good to see that it exists somewhere (and successfully that too). I had friends in cities and student towns where you needed a car to get around, and honestly, I've never felt more helpless than talking to them during the pandemic. It was truly, truly rough going for the longest time for them. A lack of walkable/free/easily accessible spaces can properly affect someone's mental health.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Natalie! :)

I am SO fortunate to live in Venice. Today I read my book in the winter sunshine in a little park with a view of San Marco. (& the sound of construction. It’s real life after-all 😂) can meet pals in a campo or a neighborhood cafe where coffee or a spritz is a few euros.

European cities really do their best to preserve their outdoor spaces and countries like Italy & Spain take it to another level which I respect so much! Last year, when I visited Rome for the first time, I was amazed to see so many public spaces full of people enjoying the sunshine & their free time & just chilling. Not as common in "meat & potatoes Europe" where I've mostly lived lol.
