Loved this. I am not married, but I do find myself downplaying my own hobbies as "silly" or "frivolous" even when they mean a lot to me! I joke about my silly grandma hobbies, but I should take them as seriously as men do their gaming or golf, and treat them with the same respect, because they do bring me joy. Thank you for this read!
I tried knitting, and it is NOT easy so massive kudos to you for keeping up with that! I think we've given our (women's) hobbies so little importance over the years, almost so thankful that we get to have them at all, that we don't even realize how it play out in a household. Thanks so much for reading, Cassie, I love all your silly grandma hobbies (trying crocheting now) and I hope you always continue to make time for them! <3
Ok, so my husband and I both run. But I wake up at 5 am to fit in my long runs, and he just takes the time when I get back and leaves me to feed the kids breakfast while getting myself and them ready for the day. I think I need to start making more noise about this issue in my house
It's so easy to place everyone else in the house before ourselves, it's practically second-nature so we don't even recognize what we're giving up. And the men probably don't even realize their hobbies/free time comes first, it's just a ridiculous amount of societal conditioning to fight through.
Thanks sos much for reading, Beck! Hope you always continue and manage to make time for your hobbies! :D
Brb, trying to find hobbies that take me out of the house!!
Pls let me also know if you find one that works!
