Essential reading for women's day + an update
We hit 1,000 readers! The floor is open for your suggestions & feedback.
Hi there!
This isn’t a full issue, just a quick hello to let you know I’m recovering from covid but am still thinking of you all!
Loads of things happened last week.
I turned a year older. 🎉
I tested positive for covid and had a really, really rough week (literally spent my birthday with a fever and intense fatigue, what a waste).
We hit 1,000+ readers for Not Controversial. 🎉
Thank you for reading, subscribing, sharing, and supporting me over the last 2 years (or whenever you found us). <3
Unfortunately, this round of covid knocked me down pretty badly, and I’m trying not to overwork myself right off the bat as I recover. Originally, I wanted to talk about discussing finances and talking about money openly with your partner (before and during a relationship) and also any kids y’all have. But my brain is still a bit overwhelmed, so I’m gonna take an extra week off to recover properly — I hope you’ll stick around.
Women’s day hoopla
In the meantime, I compiled all the important and useful issues from this newsletter that are actually helpful for women’s day (technically, they’re useful all year round). So, if you’re in the mood to re-read some classic issues or if you’ve missed some of them — here you go!
This is the 2022 version where I showcased gender pay gap tweets:
While you’re here, I’m also opening the floor to your suggestions. Is there anything (not) controversial you want me to explore? Something you’ve been thinking about but have been too anxious to talk about?
I’d also genuinely like to hear your thoughts about this newsletter & my writing. Do you think I need to add more sources? Reformat stuff? Make the issues longer? Shorter? Add more GIFs? I’m all ears.
Anon form below for all your thoughts and ideas (always happy to give you credit if you’d like that)!
If you like my work and want to support the newsletter a bit more tangibly, feel free to buy me a coffee or two!
This week’s links from my fever haze:
As humans, we cannot tell if something is wet. That's why you can't figure out if your laundry is just really cold or actually still wet.
A handy (and flexible) grocery list for when you don't know what to cook/eat.
A dry cleaner's guide to all those funky symbols on your clothes, so you know what to wash at which temperature.
Tomorrow, I'll be taking over Emma Cownley's Twitter for International Women's Day 2023. Tune in!
- , an essay collection about romcoms, what they mean to us and why they matter, launches on March 14. I've contributed an essay that explores some lovely Bollywood romances & male leads in their "soft boi era."
Leaving you with this gorgeous and soothing artwork by Pari, who's doing a Pantone Challenge!
Thanks for reading! I’ll see you next week — maybe not at the same time, but definitely the same place.
congrats Nia!!! hope you feel better soon <3
